I think this verse is true, but too easily used to point fingers at God. We need to keep other scripture in mind to maintain a broad understanding.

If we live with a “whats in it for me” attitude then where do our interests lie? Should we, like children, always seek a reward?

Before the Jews went to the temple priest forgiveness from sin with sacrifices. Who is given the power here?

25 Those who want to save their lives will give up true life, and those who give up their lives for me will have true life.
Where are the things we want found before we follow Jesus? Are they in line with God’s will of ours?

When a small child is thrown they trust they will be caught, so they take risks that adults don’t. Do you express God’s security by taking risks?
